OUR HANDS
Violent sea
Foaming at the mouth
Don't turn your back
Keep on dreaming
Our hands
Our hands
Warning signs
Flash of red and yellow
Vultures circle high
Must be the end of something...
Our hands
Our hands
Find shelter where you're able
And tunnel underground
And keep the fires burning
Ring out, ring out
Our hands
Our hands
All in time
Eyes open
Counter currents
Feeling the ground move
Bringing in changes
Hold back the tide
Try not to break
Under the weight
Of it...
So you stay wild and free
And keep your heart wide open
The world is listening
Ring out, ring out
Our hands
Our hands.
Notes:
This song is a tiny roadmap; a humble offering; some imperfect advice on to how to survive and move through this time of violence and fascism to a better place. This song is deeply political and also deeply personal. Those things, especially now, are inextricably fused. The image of our hands is meant to evoke both the power of people coming together - of creating big change, and also the tenderness of loving - the gentleness of hands holding. This moment calls for both. It is being released on the arrival of the spring equinox. Plant some seeds and dream some beautiful dreams about what our future can be.
Love big. Make art. Be loud. Stand up. Make your voice heard.
Ring out! Ring out!
